Elyria Mayor Brubaker shared his concerns about food deserts in his community with local bottlers. Coca-Cola Consolidated offered to activate their successful Backpack Buddy Program to help local students.
In August, Coca-Cola Consolidated hosted a special back-to-school event, packing and giving away 1,000 backpacks filled with snacks and drinks to students from Elyria and surrounding communities. Volunteers from Coke’s Elyria distribution center, along with Elyria Mayor Kevin A. Brubaker, City Council members Brenda Davis, Donna Mitchell, Chad Schneider, City Hall staff and OhioBev staff assembled the back.
Happy families gathered at the city’s West Recreation Center to pick up the backpacks.
